Nigeria’s Nest Of Corruption, February 20, 2012

Recent revelations of corruption that has bedeviled the pension fund administration, payment and management in the country has again brought to the fore the fact that a policy or programme worked well in other countries of the world is not a guarantee that the same would apply in our country, where corruption is so endemic that no one cares about the sweat of others. The rot in the pension administration in Nigeria is like a case of ‘dog eating the dog,’ as incumbent public servants forget so easily that they will one day retire and be in the same shoes with the pensioners.
This week cover story anchored by Assistant Editor Ibrahim Mohammed opens ‘the can of worms’ in the nation’s pension administration, though the National Assembly has promised at the beginning of its public hearing on the pension management that it is set to address the agony and plight of pensioners, who have worked hard for this country.
Also in this edition, we shall serve the discordant tunes that heralded the ‘death by hanging’ verdict on former Chief Security Officer of late head of state, Hamza Al-Mustapha. Assistant Editor Tunde Babalola spoke with a legal luminary on why the supposed killer of Alhaji Kudirat Abiola was left off hook.
