A Home For Football
he Presidential Task Force, PTF, sees the gesture as footprints in the sands of time but for the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, it is like prayer answered after 67 years of occupying a rented apartment. The decision of the PTF for the Super Eagles 2010 World Cup Campaign to fund the construction of a football headquarters for the federation in Abuja is now the talk of the town after the group, chaired by Governor Chbuike Amaechi, pledged to make the NFF landlord in Abuja.
This is a big relief for the present authorities of Glass House, who are in the same vicinity with the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, at Wuse Zone 7 in Abuja.
According to the PTF and Governor Amaechi, over N300 million have been budgeted for the construction of the Football House, which will on completion house the NFF. The money is the unutilised funds from the 2010 World Cup Campaign of the Eagles sponsored by the PTF. They had agreed to invest it on the NFF as a legacy for Nigeria football.
Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the Minister of Youth Development, who also doubles as the supervising Minister/Chairman of the National Sports Commission was on hand to unveil the construction of the House inside the Package B of the National Stadium Complex, Abuja. The site is next to the FIFA Technical Centre.
For Aminu Maigari, president of the NFF, his joy knows no bound as he is the first Nigerian FA chairman in history to be supervising the construction of a secretariat owned by the FA. To him, the development is like a dream come through. But not without further prayers to ensure the project is completed in 52 weeks as promised by Engr. Enidom Paul, chairman of the firm handling the project.
Barrister Musa Amadu, general secretary of the NFF was elated by the unveiling. He disclosed that the FA had earlier approached the Federation of International Football Federation, FIFA, for assistance in the construction of a secretariat as a Goal Project. But with the intervention of the PTF, it would be another opportunity for FIFA to convert the support to another worthwhile Goal Project.
