Alumni To The Rescue
For the alumnae of the faculty of law, University of Nigeria Nsukka, UNN, it is time to give back to the faculty that produced them. The faculty, which has produced notable lawyers who have held various positions in the society, will next month mark its golden jubilee.
Established in 1961 as one of the professional courses of the university to train middle class manpower, the faculty has produced notable personalities like the deputy president of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu; the governor of Enugu State, Sullivan Chime; former governor of Edo State, Professor Osariemen Osunbor; former national president of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Olisa Agbakoba; Mary Odili, a justice of the Supreme Court, JSC; the chief judges of Imo, Abia and Rivers States as well as Chief Mike Ahamba, a senior advocate of Nigeria, SAN, among others.
Chairman of the UNN faculty of law alumni association, Chief Ahamba said the association, during the golden jubilee celebration taking place between May 23 and 25, intends to uplift teaching and learning in the faculty. He said the association is considering equipping the faculty with necessary materials to attain international standard, improve its infrastructural development and assist in solving the problems confronting lecturers in the faculty.
The golden jubilee of the faculty would have been held in October last year but Ahamba explained that logistical problems forced the shift to May this year. He said the golden jubilee celebration will serve as a home coming for many of the alumni and achieve its purpose.
